Playa de Las Catedrales, Galicia
A wonderfully remote beach and literally translating as the ‘Beach of the Cathedrals’, here you will find pristine, white stretches of sand and amazing rock formations. During low tide – usually between 10 am and 3 pm – it’s possible to explore the many arches and caves which can’t be seen at any other time of day.
Located in the northwest of the country, close to the cities of Foz and Ribadeo, the weather here can be pretty unpredictable, so it’s not recommended to come here during the winter months.
Ses Illetes, Formentera
When it comes to the Balearic Islands, most tourists tend to flock to Ibiza, Minorca, and Mallorca, but you will actually find the best beaches on Formentera, especially the beach of Ses Illetes. With its fine, white sand and sparkling turquoise waters, it’s no wonder that this beach has regularly been compared to those in the Caribbean. Unlike the beaches on the bigger islands, Ses Illetes is less touristy, with only a few restaurants and no shops.
If you’re visiting Ses Illetes, try to get there pretty early; it’s a thin stretch of beach, meaning in high season it can get quite busy.
Nerja, Andalucia
A typical whitewashed Spanish town, Nerja is one of the most picturesque places in the whole of Spain and has plenty of wonderful beaches to enjoy. The most popular of these is Playa Burriana, especially with families; there are plenty of facilities to help you make the most of your day, such as restaurants, a children’s play area, a volleyball net, and lots of sun loungers, pedalos, and showers. La Caletilla is also beautiful, with its rocky outcrops and crystal clear waters.
Tarifa, Cadiz, Andalusia
If you’re looking for a beach where you can lounge around soaking up the sun, Tarifa probably isn’t what you’re looking for. It gets pretty windy at this beach, so although it’s not that good for sunbathing, it is a fantastic place for water sports, such as surfing and windsurfing, and attracts a lot of travelers who are interested in doing just that. If you fancy doing a spot of whale watching, this is also an option here.
As this beach is a more active one than other beaches, accommodation options tend to be cheaper. Tarifa is also known for its vibrant nightlife.
