Viet Nam is once again a safe and interesting travel destination. Ho Chi Minh City, once known as Saigon, is one of the best tourist destinations in the country. No matter what you enjoy doing, there is most likely going to be something to pique your interest.
Museums
There are several museums in the city. They cover topics such as the war era and the reunification of Viet Nam. Along with the museums are several historic buildings from the French Colonial era. Many of these are still in use as well as excellent tourist sites.
The War Remnants Museum is one of the most prominent of the museums in HCMC. Outside it has a tank, helicopter and some rocket launchers. Inside are more artifacts from the war. The museum also has the entrance to the Cu Chi Tunnels.
These tunnels were used by the Viet Cong to move around the city. If you choose to go, be prepared for a rough crawl on hands and knees. Shorts are not recommended and you can expect to have some scrapes before you are finished going through the tunnel.
The Reunification Palace once served as a general’s base of operations during the war. When the general died in 1963 the war still raged, however the end of the war came when a tank rolled through the main gates.
The palace is still largely as it was some sixty years ago. It is a museum, and it showcases the grandeur of the building. There is also a war room and a communications room where troops were directed.
Food
Every country has special dishes that make it unique. This holds true for Viet Nam in general and HCMC in particular. If you enjoy luxury dining, you can find it in this city. If you like street food, there are miles of it throughout the city. In fact, you can get a guide with a motorcycle to take you to the best places for street food throughout the city.
Nightlife
Whether you want to go out with your spouse or you want to get in on the dating scene, HCMC is a great place to do it. Nguyen Hue Walking Street is a good example. This street is for pedestrians only, unlike the chaotic roads. You can take a long walk, visit night clubs or otherwise enjoy what nightlife has to offer.
Markets
What is a vacation without going shopping? These markets are also a great place for people watching. You can find everything from food and flowers to clothing and other items. If you want it, you will most likely find it in one of the many markets. Ben Thanh Market is one of the best ones to visit.
The people of this country are friendly and welcoming to tourists and those who wish to move there. Many other amenities are offered in Ho Chi Minh City, including five-star hotels and luxury tours on the Saigon River.
